Scope and Contents

Composite item made up of three folios pasted to a fourth.

Main item is a fragment of a letter from Harriet Hepburne-Scott [Lady Polwarth] to Marianne Talbert. Lady Polwarth reminisces about a visit to Charles Montagu-Scott [4th Duke of Buccleuch], various whig balls during childhood, and a recent letter from William Laidlaw.

The second and third folios adhered are pencil portraits, both made in 1837. The first is captioned 'Hugh Scott of Harden 1800 / Baron Polwarth copied Dec[embe]r 1837'. The second is captioned 'Harriet Lady Polwarth (copied 1837) 1800. Daughter of Comte de Brulh [and] / The Countess Dow[age]r of Egremont and / Wife of Hugh Scott Lord Polwarth
