Collection of ballads printed in London, 19th century

Bundle of printed ballads on a variety of contemporary topics. Printers imprints centre on London, and generally in the area of Seven Dials.

Most items are single folios, but some are small gatherings of pages. All are printed in black ink on neutral-coloured paper. On a few occasions, colour has been added by hand to add decoration to woodcuts.

One page [titled 'Dreadful shipwreck in the Channel, of the Northfleet Emigrant Ship, Loss of over 300 lives'] has a note on the verso in a contemporary hand, which reads:
"Please return to F. M. Collinson
Old Surrenden Manor
Bethersden
Kent

Make block 2 9/10[inches] wide to edges of printing"

It is unclear whether Collinson collected the items together himself, or whether he acquired them as a set from another source and facilitated their reproduction.
