Biographical / Historical
The planned Edinburgh Eastern Link Road threatened the University of Edinburgh's Physical Education building at the Pleasance and a site for a replacement was allocated between Marshall Street and Crichton Street. By 1973, this site was being considered for a number of uses and another site for the Physical Education building was allocated on the east side of Potterrow, on the site of the old the Empire Garage (1977). With the cancellation of the Link Road plans, in 1977, this project was abandoned.
