Biographical / Historical
The main building of the University of Edinburgh is Old College built during the 18th and 19th centuries to designs by Robert Adam and William Henry Playfair. Since then there have been successive works to repair, alter and convert its accommodation and upgrade the quadrangle. In the late 1940s, R Gordon Brown produced an unexecuted scheme, as did Ian G Lindsay & partners, in the mid-1960s. Percy Johnson-Marshall & Associates produced reports on its rehabilitation in 1976-1977.
