Scope and Contents

This fonds consists of photographs and papers relating to Dr Anthony D. Oliver. It is made of three different accessions; the first one (SC-Acc-2017-0102) contains photographs and pictures, and the second one (SC-Acc-2023-0120; SC-Acc-2024-0062) contains papers such as student notes, medical case notes, workbooks etc.

Oliver; photograph of the rectorial installation, 1958, of James Robertson Justice; print of drawing of Edinburgh Royal Infirmary (Lauriston Place); print of drawing of Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

  1. File labelled "E.U. Lecture Notes: Psychiatry, Neurology, Neurosurgery", early 1960s;
  2. File containing lecture timetables and lecture notes, British Medical Association Junior Members Forum newsletter and letter, 1964-1965, readings from world scriptures, one medical case note (extracted from folder due to DP issues), and exam papers, 1960s;
  3. File containing Laboratory Course in Pharmacology and Therapeutics and case notes from Edinburgh Northern General Hospital, early 1960s (closed due to Data Protection restrictions);
  4. British Medical Students Association meeting papers, 1964-1965, Medical Education Symposium papers, preliminary typescript tutorial notes for 5th year Medicine, newspaper cuttings relating to student life 1960s-1970s (2 folders).

  2. File containing 3rd year Medicine Bacteriology exam papers and practical class notes, 1961-1962;

  4. Copy of Scottish Field magazine, June 1961, containing article with photographs of medical students;
  5. File containing a mixture of typescript notes from Medical School, reports from the International Federation of Medical Student Associations and British Medical Students Association, visit of Edinburgh Medical Students to Leiden, c 1961-1965 (2 folders);

  1. Notebooks containing notes on: physiology, pharmacology, "bugs", genetics, "notes on pathology - Boyd", obstetrics, forensic medicine, public health, psychiatry, psychological medicine, surgery, 1961-1965;
  2. "Silver Series" notebooks containing notes on: pediatrics, cardiology, and clinical chemistry (including a blank exam paper dated 7 December 1963), c 1963;
  3. Loose cards with notes and definition of different medical terms and conditions;
  4. Loose revision notes on medical subjects.
  5. Grey spiral notebooks containing notes on the nervous system and on histology;
  6. Sketchbook entitled "Course of Practical Histology" containing medical pencil sketches;
  7. Blue notebooks containing biochemistry notes, 1958-1959;
  8. Loose exam paper - Class of clinical chemistry, December 1962;
  9. File labelled "Physiology Practical" containing physiology course notes and handouts, 1959;
  10. File labelled "Physiology" containing an "essay on clinical demonstration" by A. Oliver (3rd year), and physiology course notes, 1959-1960;
  11. File labelled "Anatomy" containing anatomy course notes, 1959-1960.
