A lithograph drawn by Charles van de Velde and lithography by Eugène Cicéri showing Jerusalem and the Mount of Olives. The Mount of Olives is a mountain ridge east of and adjacent to Jerusalem's Old City, and is named for the olive groves that once covered its slopes. The mount has been used as a Jewish cemetery for over 3000 years and holds approximately 150,000 graves. Several key events in the life of Jesus, as related in the Gospels, took place on the Mount of Olives.

A lithograph drawn by Charles van de Velde and lithography by Isidore-Laurent Deroy. Taken from the Damascus Gate, one of the main entrances to the Old City of Jerusalem. The current gate (2020) was built in 1537, beneath the current gate, the remains of an earlier gate exist dating back to the time of the Roman Emperor Hadrian.
