In the Bible, during the conquest of Canaan, Joshua defeated the alliance of the Canaanite chieftains under Jabin at the Battle of the Waters of Merom.

The Mount of Olives is a mountain ridge east of and adjacent to Jerusalem's Old City, and is named for the olive groves that once covered its slopes. The mount has been used as a Jewish cemetery for over 3000 years and holds approximately 150,000 graves. Several key events in the life of Jesus, as related in the Gospels, took place on the Mount of Olives.

Jerusalem is one of the oldest cities in the world and is considered holy to the three major Abrahamic religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Both Israel and the State of Palestine claim Jerusalem as their captial.

The current gate (2020) was built in 1537, beneath the current gate, the remains of an earlier gate exist dating back to the time of the Roman Emperor Hadrian.

A village at Er Riha on the site of Jericho, a city within the West Bank and located in the Jordan Valley with the Jordan River to the east and Jerusalem to the west. It is believed to be one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world.

Al-Majdal was a Palestinian Arab village located on the western shore of the Sea of Galelee north of Tiberias and south of Khan Minyeh. It is identified the site of the ancient town of Magdala, reputed to be the birthplace of Mary Magdalene.
