Two manuscript volumes on Scottish law. The first one reads 'Treatise on Bills, [written] by John Mein Writer to the Signet'. The manuscript dates from c. 1740 and bears the ink ownership signature of Henry Home, later Lord Kames (1696-1782). The second manuscript just starts with the word 'Case' and describes a series of cases dating from 1760s-1810s.

Catalogue of original samples of threads and fabrics made in Barcelona ca 1930. It is presenting 32 different colour threads and six pieces of printed coloured fabrics. The accompanying descriptive text including chemical formulas is beautifully handwritten.

Poyais land grant for 60 acres from Gregor MacGregor, April 1834

Scope and Contents

Grant of 60 acres of land in Poyais given by Gregor MacGregor. The document is signed by MacGregor himself, as well as Hugart Sempill, William M. Peacock, A. Hillary and a fourth person. 'Poyais' was a fictional Central American territory that MacGregor, a Scottish soldier and confidence trickster, claimed to rule as 'Cazique' (leader). Many lost their savings by investing in spurious 'Poyaisian' government bonds and land certificates. The text is in English, with a translation in French.
