Calton Hill with the Old Jail (site of St. Andrew's House), Dugald Stewart's Monument, the Nelson Monument, and part of the Old Royal High School on the extreme right. Handwritten title by R. Dykes. A print from this glass plate negative was included in the "New Town of Edinburgh" and the "Monuments and Restorations" sections of Geddes' replacement "Cities and Town Planning Exibition". Calton Jail with the Governor's House on the right. The clock of the North British Hotel is in the distance beyond the (former) General Post Office buiding. Note the old fashioned railway signalss on the left, on the still used but now modernised railway line running east, and ultimately south, from Waverley Station. A print from this glass plate negative was included in the "New Town of Edinburgh" section of Geddes' replacement "Cities and Town Planning Exibition". See Coll-1167/B/13.

Scope and Contents Photograph looking north from the north end of Charles Street into Bristo Place (with buildings on both sides, still standing 1989) and to the Outlook Tower beyond (very faint).
