Said to be take from Lady Lawson Street near the former Fire Station. The old Cattle Market is in the foreground. Compare print G17. St. Giles' crown is on the left of the chimney, the McEwan Hall dome to the right. The chimney appears in the next print Coll-1167/B/26/7/18. It looks like that of Campbell, Hope and King's Brewery behind Chambers Street, north side.

Scope and Contents King Stables Road and the south back of the West Port taken from Main Point, but it has proven very difficult to identify the site of the camera, and the photographer (who, in this case, labelled the negative) was (and his question mark shows that he was uncertain in this case) mistaken about the names of places. Johnstone Terrace is in the middle distance, with the south wall of the Castle Esplanade beyond. The spire is that of the former Tolbooth St. John's Church (Victoria Hall). Compare...
