Scope and Contents

Comprises of correspondence sent and received by the Scottish Homosexual Rights Group’s (SHRG) Befriending Team, which includes:

Correspondence between members of the Befriending Team about individual cases and organisational and administrative issues, as well as letters to and from prospective/new members and letters of resignation.

Correspondence from clients to the Befriending Team asking for information and advice, contacts for external services, and arranging in-person meetings. Also includes replies from Befriending Team.

SMG correspondence relating to funding, specifically the Lothian Regional Council Grant Aid, and budget spreadsheets.

Correspondence relating to advertising and publicity.

Correspondence between the Befriending Team and the Edinburgh Branch of SMG, and other organisations and institutions, including: the National Association of Gay Switchboards (NAGS); London Gay Switchboard; Bristol Gay Switchboard; the British Association for Counselling (BAC); Joint Council for Gay Teenagers; the National Childbirth Trust; University of St. Andrews Nightline; and Self Help Association for Transsexuals (SHAFT).

Please note the term Transsexuals is quoted directly form the record.The term transsexual was used to describe individuals whose gender identity is different from their assigned sex at birth.
