Scope and Contents

Correspondence received and sent by the Edinburgh Gay Switchboard Befriending Team. Topics include: training and requests for speakers from external organisations; staffing (including new applications, and resignations); fundraising and the Social Work Department’s grant to voluntary organisations; the death of a former member of EGS due to complications from AIDS; and a proposal to establish a Central Region Switchboard for Gay Men and Lesbians.

Also included is correspondence from service users seeking advice and requesting information on gay-friendly venues and organisations in Edinburgh.

External organisations whom correspondence relates to includes: Lesbian and Gay Pride Organising Committee; SOLAS HIV/AIDS Resource Centre; Lothian Regional Council; Friend West Midlands; the Stonewall Youth Project; Lothian College of Nursing and Midwifery; British Association for Counselling; Scottish Homosexual Rights Group; Edinburgh Bisexual Group; Scottish Parents Enquiry; the Samaritans; Scottish Television (STV); and the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh

A copy of the Aims and Objectives of Switchboard is included which outlines a description of office bearer roles, the responsibility of counsellors, training, administration, and rules. Also included is the Code of Conduct of Forth Friend.
