Records of the Ear, Nose and Throat Department, 1926 - 1987

 Series
Identifier: LHB5/46

Scope and Contents

The Ear, Nose and Throat Department was established in 1913. Two cots were made available in the surgical wards for cases and they were in the charge of the first surgeon to the Ear and Throat Department, Dr WG Porter. Dr Douglas Guthrie succeeded him and in 1929 a new ward was opened, the Meikleham Ward. It was the first ward to be opened in any children’s hospital in Britain exclusively for such cases.

A register for the ENT ward, prior to the opening of the dedicated ward, is at LHB5/10/10. There are also registers for Ward 6 at LHB5/10/7 although these are not exclusively for ENT cases.
