Papers of James Hay (c.1736-1784), minister of Elgin
Scope and Contents
Set of 5 manuscript notebooks belonging to James Hay, minister of Elgin (d. 1784). Notebooks are quarto volumes, with numbered labels and full leather bindings. The manuscript is in a clear italic hand. The front boards often bear the signature and description of Hay's grandson, John Baylee.
1. On church government. 1773
2. Passages in the New Testament that have any reference to a future state. 1774
3 - 5. Critical notes on the Hebrew Bible, with indexes of prophetical works listed at the back. 1775 - 7 February 1776. Volume 5 has a short section at page 321 in a second, more modern hand.
