There is a note on the first page from 1941 that says, ' Written at least 60 years ago by some friend of N.E.Macfarlane at their debating society in Stornoway (1941. This note was made by A.F.M.M.)'.

The Royall Cedar, by Frederic van Bossen
Unbound copy of a manuscript, Edinburgh 1688, with original stitching. Commences with an elaborate title page with allegorical figures, with shield and decorated borders. There follows a list of authorities used in the writing of the work and a dedication. Van Bossen states that he has made use of an ancient manuscript by John Tulloch, Bishop of Orkney. The work forms a substantial history of Scottish nobility and follows the structure of that laid out in other copies.

18th century copy of Robert Kirk's 'Secret Commonwealth', a treatise on fairy folklore, witchcraft, ghosts, fauns etc, bound by William Henderson in 1814 (according to note on end paper).
The Sir Walter Elliot Archive
This collection is composed of seven Indian copper plate charters in Sanskrit recrding land grants, dating from the 5th to 16th centuries CE, and of three volumes containing rubbings of inscriptions from different regions of India, collected by Sir Walter Elliot throughout the 19th century.
