The collection consists of notes of surgical cases arising from military action of British troops in Spain, 1832-1833, and notes of cases in the general military hospital of San Telmo, San Sebastian, arising from military action of British troops, 1836-1837. There is also a volume of statistical returns of sick and wounded admitted to the military hospitals of the Legion in Spain, 1835-1837.

Items relating to the work of J. Gardner & Son, Surgical Instrument Manufacturers. These include design sketches and templates of surgical instruments and medical apparatus produced by the company, manuals and catalogues produced by suppliers of materials, and other documents related to the company's business activities. All materials included in this collection date from 1894 to around 1970.

Scope and Contents The collection is composed of an imposing photograph of John A. W. Dollar, circa 1904-1905, in his presidential robes - President of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons - and a bill with engraved bill-head of the Dollar veterinary practice on New Bond Street, London, with a fine engraved bill-head, a rare survival.The portrait was taken by the firm Elliott and Fry, 55 Baker Street, London W, and is numbered in pencil as No.206440D.The bill with engraved bill-head...

Papers relating to Charles Weighton's veterinary career, including a trocar and canula (instruments designed to treat bloat in cattle) and related papers and leaflets; and various documents and correspondence (1952-1977).

The material is composed of:

- 2 x scrolls or certificates, being: 17 December 1888 - Member of the College of Veterinary Surgery - signed by various individuals; and, 1888-1889 - Edinburgh Veterinary Medical Association - signed by the President, Thomas Wally, the Vice President, J. McFadyean, the Hon. Vice President, A? Baird, the Secretary, C. D. Watkins, and Charles Stevenson the Librarian.

Scope and Contents This volume of notes is based on Monro's surgical lectures at Edinburgh Medical School, 1774-1775. The manuscript lectures are sub-headed Lectures 1-13 and are in two distinct hands - the first two lectures in one, and the rest in another. The paper is watermarked with a crown and the initials GR, undated, but this L.V.Gerrevink paper commonly used throughout much of the 18th century. These ms notes of the lectures on Anatomy and Surgery given by Henry Cline (1750-1827) and Astley Cooper (1768-1841) were taken down by Robert Bickersteth. Cline was a surgeon at St. Thomas's Hospital, London, and Cooper was a surgeon in London too.

The notes are in ink, sometimes on both recto and verso of the leaf, but usually on the rectos only. There are occasional drawings.

The papers are composed of: an Edinburgh Veterinary College document, being a 'Statement on behalf of ... petitioners for a Veterinary College for Scotland', dated November 1867; a copy of the Pharmacy Act (1868) Amendment; miscellaneous letters to Aitken from 1866 to 1889; newspaper cutting; and, photograph.
