This is the manuscript diary of James nicol (1810-1879), an Edinburgh University student in medicine and natural history, who would later become a geologist and Professor of Natural history at the University of Aberdeen. This collection is composed of two albums containing a collection of Notgeld, or 'emergency money' printed in Germany after all the low-value coins had vanished due to a shortage in metal during the inter-war period.
