Red Ribbon Initiative

 Subject
Subject Source: Local sources
Scope Note: The Red Ribbon Initiative began in 1991 in New York when a group of artists embarked on a new visual project to help spread awareness of the dangers of HIV and AIDS. Ribbons were designed to be worn as a symbol of solidarity and support for people living with the disease. The red ribbon has now become synonymous with World AIDS Day on 1 December and people across the world are involved in making, distributing and wearing them to show support.
