Names Project, The

 Subject
Subject Source: Local sources
Scope Note: The Names Project began in San Francisco in 1985 both as a memorial to individuals and a way to spread awareness of HIV and AIDS. People could design panels to represent their loved ones and each panel was then sewn together to make a quilt. The UK version of the project began in 1991 and a travelling exhibition was set up to tour Britain showcasing the panels.
