Scope and Contents Cecil thanks Ewart for 'the photo of Mulatto and Romulus' (Ewart's first zebra/horse hybrid and dam) and mentions that the Scottish Farmer should be sending 'Reid of Wishaw' (Charles Reid, the photographer). Cecil suggests that Reid should photograph Ewart's various animals (zebra, mule, donkey as well as Mulatto and Romulus) to highlight the differences in stripes between father and son, and the absence of stripes in the non-hybrid animals.

Scope and Contents This is a first quality Victorian family photograph album of the family of Eliza Murphy, daughter of Calvert Toulmin who was a shipowner holding the monopoly of postal carriage to Australia.

In addition to 196 'carte de visite' photographs of family members including Calvert Toulmin, of holiday destinations and of sentimental group poses, the album contains 57 photographs of Russian tradesmen and street vendors taken by William Carrick.
