Fragment containing portions of eighteen lines from an elegiac poem. There is a reference to a well-known passage of the Iliad in one of the couplets.


The script is a clear upright uncial, which may be assigned to the second century. There is a very deep margin (7.8 cm) at the top of the column, perhaps intended for scholia.

Scope and Contents Ridgeway thanks Ewart for the photograph of a pony's head. He asserts that the conclusion that no asses had evolved west of the Nile is incorrect and cites a renowned Arab historian and geographer, Al-Masudi. He mentions the appearance of curiously striped wild asses in the province of Nubia, on the West side of the Nile.
