Collection of book illustrations representing theatrical characters from Shakespeare and Restoration plays
This is a collection of illustrations taken from printed books, representing characters in costume from Shakespear's plays, and Restoration plays. Three envelopes, labelled: "Shakespeare" (53 illustrations), "Mainly Restoration drama" (24 illustrations), and "To be identified - Mainly Restoration drama" (25 illustrations). Most illustrations date from the 1770s, and have been "Published for Bells British Theatre".

Coloured sketches - Alison Douglas Tod, mid-20th century
This file contains a combination of pencil sketches and more complete ink and painted drawings. The main subject is Alison Tod's character, Sally Ann, but there is also a pencil and coloured pencil drawing of dancing women.
Copies of Macfarlan's Illustrated Family Paper
Three editions the Macfarlan's Illustrated Family Paper, from 1 May 1855, 1 June 1855, and 2 July 1855. The newspapers are entirely hand-written or hand-drawn, including illustrations. Topics discussed include, among other things: events relating to the Crimean war such as the siege of Sevastopol and the Hango Head massacre; the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 1855; the Exposition Universelle of 1855 (as international exhibition held in Paris). The newspapers are beautifully illustrated.
