The text is a translation of chapters 1-24 of the spurious work written in Latin under the name of Augustine of Hippo (354-430, bishop, theologian, and Doctor of the Church) with the title of Manuale (i.e. handbook). It is a collection of maxims and teachings by different Christian authors and Doctors of the Church, but it does contain in particular a high number of excerpts from Saint Augustine's works.
