Contains notebooks from Beale's early research at the John Innes Horticultural Institution (as it was then known), his period at Indiana University, Bloomington and career within the Institute of Animal Genetics. The notebooks chiefly contain daily logs of experiments with Paramecium, Euplotes and other material as well as notes from reading and research.

Also poetry exchanged between a minister and his lover, from John Matheson, Portree who recieved it from Donald Matheson alias Domhnall a' Chórnain (?Chórnair). The introduction is in Donald's own words.

Carmichael, 32 Polwarth Gardens, Edinburgh.

The contents are derived from Dr Reeves, On the Culdees' in Transactions of the Royal Irish Academy Vol. XXIV, Antiquities Part 1. The Culdee or Céli Dé was an ancient monastic order with settlements in Ireland and Scotland.

Mathematical notebook containing a system of spherical trigonometry, geometrical problem, etc. by Professor William Wallace. 1790s-1800s. Accompanied by a red, thin volume, containing Wallace's own notes, and letters. Paper watermark 1819. In the volume are loosely inserted, a paper on the separation of the symbols of quantity and operation, and a letter of Prof. Wallace to engineer Thomas Drummond, 30 May 1830.
