They met an old man and told him they would spare his life if he showed them where the young men were. In self-preservation he showed them and they killed them by setting fire to the cave.

An unmarried woman there by the name of MacMillan heard he had no bed clothes so persuaded her neighbours to make a blanket for him. They worked non-stop on the blankets and 'dried [them] on the face of the rocks...
