Newspaper cuttings relating to various subjects including: Scottish place names, clan history, topography, the Inneses of Caithness and pipe tunes. The cuttings were taken from the following publications, Oban Times, Glasgow Herald, Peoples Journal, Northern Chronicle, Perthshire Advertiser, Northern Ensign and the Highland News.

The cuttings are contained in three envelopes, addressed to the Rev Charles M. Robertson, Jura, Islay and Ullapool.

Note about the origins of the Carmichael families that Carmichael's own clan came from Leireag near Oban while the Cloichl[e]a Carmichaels came from Clachan Saoileach [Lerags, An t-Òban, Cloichlea, Lios Mòr/Lismore, Clachan Sound, all Earra Ghàidheal/Argyllshire].

MacAulay describes how 16 or 18 members of the clan are buried 'under the stone at Aoi' [Eaglais na h-Aoidhe] having been killed by Iain Garbh in Iain Wylie's house in Stornoway [Steòrnabhagh]. MacLeod of Lewis was a very bad man, who divorced his wife and was related to Am Britheamh Leothasach [Leòdhasach]. The king had sent word to MacLeod of Lewis but MacLeod ignored him and so the king gave the Isle of Lewis to people from Fife. Scope and Contents Transcription notebook belonging to Alexander Carmichael. The majority of the volume has been used but intermittently there are groups of blank folios. Carmichael appears to have written in the book in the 1860s creating sections of different genres at different stages in the volume, with pages left blank in between to fill up appropriately. In about 1875 he has then used some of these blank pages to transcribe notes and stories but has not kept to the genres sections he initially created....
