Biography

Richard I, King of England, Duke of Normandy and of Aquitaine, and Count of Anjou was born in 1157 at Oxford, the third son of Henry II (1133-1189) and Eleanor of Aquitaine (c. 1122-1204). He ruled as King from 1189 until his death, earning the nickname "Lionheart" because of his reputation as a great military leader and warrior.
