Biography

Macrobius Ambrosius Theodosius was a Roman writer of the early 5th century primarily known for three major works; Commentarii in Somnium Scipionis ("Commentary on the Dream of Scipio"), an important source for Platonism during the Middle Ages; the Saturnalia, which is a compendium of ancient Roman religious and antiquarian lore; and De differentiis et societatibus graeci latinique verbi ("On the Differences and Similarities of the Greek and Latin Verb") This text is now lost.

Contents This section of the manuscript is a version of Macrobius's philosophical treatise, Commentarii in Somnium Scipionis ('Commentary on the Dream of Scipio'). Cicero's 'Dream of Scipio' appears at the end of his De re publica, which was written around 50 BCE.
