Biography

William of the White Hands (Guillaume, de Champagne) was born in Brosse in 1135, the son Theobold the Great. He served as Bishop of Chartres in 1165, Archbishop of Sens (1169–1176) and Archbishop of Reims (1175–1202). He died in 1202 in Laon.

It is a French translation of the Historia Scholastica of Petrus Comestor (which was originally in Latin), combined with the first full translation of the vulgate Bible into French.
