Handwritten article on the geology of Grande [sic Gran] Canaria and the way in which the rocks were formed. Seeming to be a summary of Lyell's observations while on the island, 1855. It is not in his handwriting, and is perhaps written by Mary Lyell, or Georg Hartung.

Letter to Mary [Lyell] from [Charles James Bunbury] giving barometrical observations in feet which were taken on the Island of Gran Canaria. Bunbury states that he has passed these measurements to Dr Hooker in order that he might verify them, 1850s.

Scope and Contents Small red leather soft cover notebook, marbled end papers, paginated in handwritten ink. Front cover marked as 'Madeira & Canaries'.This notebook records discussions, reading, drawings and copy letters (in Mary's writing) made whilst with Hartung at Swingenberg, Germany, and working through the Canary Islands publication, making revisions or notes, especially on volcanoes, lava slopes, elevations and upheaval. Two notebooks created to contain work, with Georg Hartung, and others, relating to Madeira – with references to Canary Islands, Gran Canarias, Tenerife and the Azores. No indexes in either, the notebooks record discussions, reading, and include drawings and copy letters (in Mary's writing) on volcanoes, lava slopes, shells, elevations and upheaval.
