Biography

James Cathcart White (1853-1943), an Edinburgh graduate and advocate, left the Library a fine collection of some 360 works and a significant sum of money which is still used to purchase books and manuscripts today.

Scope and Contents MS 300 contains four texts bound together, in different hands. It includes a copy of the Decretales Gregorii IX (Decretals of Pope Gregory IX) ordered by Pope Gregory IX, and put together by his chaplain and confessor, Raymond of Peñafort, and a copy of the Decretales Innocentii IV (Decretals of Innocent IV). Verses have been added to the volume in blank space during the 13th century, as well as a poem of twenty-one long lines...
