Thomas titled 'On the Defensive Architecture of the Outer Hebrides'; manuscript titled 'Duns, North-Uist, describing their position'; offprint 'Is Fingal's Cave Artificial' by F.Cope Whitehouse, also with letter from the author, dated 28 September 1885; manuscript by Alexander Carmichael titled 'Antiquarian Notes, North Uist', dated February 1867; assorted archaeological and antiquarian sketches and plans; and a draft of an article later titled 'Hypogeum. At Valaquie, Island Uist' by John Francis Campbell [on behalf of A. Carmichael]. Also includes a series of letters from Alexander Carmichael to Captain F.W.L. Thomas, from November 1866 through December 1880.
