Story entitled 'An Ceatharnach' collected from Donull Mac Iain mac Iain ic Ra'al [Donald Johnston], crofter, Eirisga [Eiriosgaigh/Eriskay]. An Ceatharnach caol riach [grey grizzled outlaw] arrives at O Donuil's [O'Donnell] banquet having travelled through Scotland, Ireland and the Isle of Man and asks to listen to the music. He is not invited in but goes in anyway and after several musicians play he plays the clarsach and sends the whole room to sleep except for Galloglach who get hold of an axe and trying to kill An Ceatharnach kills many others in the process.The Ceatharnach escapes and meets an old man on his way to see O'Donnell, who turns out to be Seathain mac Iarla. Seathain gives him food and a bed for the night. Seathain gets An Ceatharnach to read and to play the clarsach, which then puts everyone to sleep expect for him and An Ceatharnach. They sit on a hill and Seathain tells him about Geocain who broke his leg but it cannot be healed so An Ceatharnach goes to Geocain and heals his leg in return for which Geocain offers his daughter's hand in marriage. An Ceatharnach then attends O'Ceallai's [O'Kelly] gathering of musicians and performs tricks. He shakes his right leg and an Galloglach says that anyone can do that, so An Ceatharnach invites him to do so and when an Galloglach shakes his leg it falls off and O'Ceallai warns everyone to pay attention to An Ceatharnach but to have nothing to do with him. An Ceatharnach then shakes his ear and says to an Galloglach that if he does the same he will get everything promised to him, so an Galloglach shakes his ear and it falls off and he cries with pain. In the third trick, An Ceatharnach takes a length of silk from his pocket and strings it along the roof of the house. Next, he takes a girl from his pocket and makes her run along the length of silk, after which he produces a boy who runs after her. When the boy tries to harm the girl, he puts the girl back in his pocket and chops the head off the boy. An Ceatharnach then goes to O'Ceallai to claim his prize but O'Ceallai refuses until he puts the boy's head back on its body. At first he puts the head back on the wrong way around and then at O'Ceallai's insistance he rights it. He then refuses the prize money on the grounds that he does not need it. After he leaves O'Ceallai he encounters Conachar Sligneach who invites him to be his servant and to plunder Cailleach Thullartaich and Cailleach Thollartaich with him, which they successfully do. On being asked by Conachar what his name is, An Ceatharnach replies that it is Giolla. When they arrive at Conachar's house, Conochar has his dinner and forgets all about An Ceatharnach outside. The table is relaid for An Ceatharnach but he refuses and heads off on his travels again and is never heard of again.

The informant stated that he heard the story from his grandfather Gilleaspuig Mac Aonais [Archibald MacInnes], who lived at Airi Mhuillin, near Gearrabhalteas [Airigh-mhuilinn and Gearraidh Bhailteas/Garryvaltos, Uibhist a Deas/South Uist]
