Scope and Contents

A short piece of prose followed by lyrics for a song titled "King Frederick's Camp." It tells the story of Frederick the Great who, in order to deceive his enemy, commanded that no light should be kindled throughout his encampment. However, a young soldier lit a taper to write a letter to his new bride. On discovery, King Frederick commanded him to finish the letter, "and add that you are to be shot tomorrow morning, for disobedience of orders." Unsigned but in the hand of Louisa Matilda Crawford.
