Note protesting the sale of the manuscript letters of Queen Ann and the first Duke of Marlborough to Sir Charles Hedges, early 19th century
Scope and Contents
Note protesting the sale of the manuscript letters of Queen Ann [sic] and the first Duke of Marlborough to Sir Charles Hedges, Secretary of State. The grandaughter of Sir Charles married into the Montague family at Lackham House, Wiltshire in 1742 and the letters had been considered a family heirloom since that time. The final line reads, "The manuscripts remained in the family possession as we have already said so late as two years since. Some hopeful descendant has therefore done an act disgraceful to his genealogy."
