Biographical / Historical
Beatty began his PhD at the Zoology and Biochemistry Departments, Cambridge, in 1938, but because of the interruption of war he did not submit the two parts of his thesis until 1949. His PhD was awarded in 1950. 'The pigmentation of cavernicolous animals' was published in three parts in the Journal of Experimental Biology in 1941-1942 and 1949.
