De usu pulsum, late 13th century
Contents
Ff. 245-248 of MS 166 contain the Galenic text De usu pulsuum, a treatise on the use of the pulse in medical practice. Usually, and as is the case in MS 166, De usu pulsuum is bound together with De pulsibus ad tirones, a treatise on the pulse for students (on ff. 241-45 of MS 166). Like the preceding treatise on the pulse, this copy of De usu pulsuum is the Latin translation from the Arabic by 12th-13th century scholar, Marcus of Toledo.
The text begins with Dixit Galienus oportet nos inspicere pulsus utilitatem on f. 245v. On f. 248r the text ends, with id quod in hoc libro diximus. Completus est tractatus Galieni de utilitate pulsus.
In the hand of the second scribe on MS 166.
