Rudimenta Doctrine by Gilbert of Tournai, 14th-15th century
Contents
This section of the manuscript contains the Rudimenta Doctrine, a treatise about Church doctrine by Gilbert of Tournai, who was a Franciscan monk writing in the 13th century. This version is from the 14th or 15th century and was probably produced in Erfurt, Germany. A note at the end of this treatise, written not long after the book itself, refers to a more complete copy and other works by Gilbert of Tournai, which are in the library of the Majus Collegium there.
This section starts on f. 1r with a Tabula, which begins with the words Tractatus iste qui dicitur rudimenta doctrine vel erudimentum quatuor habet partes de doctrina exequentes. The tabula ends on f. 9v with the words quadrivium sapientie.
The Prologue starts on f. 10r with the words Sepe numero postulatus a pluribus and ends on f.10v with ex philosophorum exercitacione.
The Text starts on f. 10v with the words Nature humane condicionem dura attendimus. It ends on f. 192r with the words et ultima accedamus. Explicit tercia pars rudimenti Magistri Gilberti de ordine fratrum minorum de Tornaco. Deo gracias.
The note at the end of this treatise, previously mentioned above, reads Hie deficit quarta pars quae diitusior et subtilior est quae agit de causa morali doctrine sicut de diversis scientiis. Sed habetur in Majori Collegio Erffordiae sub hoc signo F.F.3. in bonam scripturam. Ibidem habentur sermones ejusdem Gilberti valde magistrates et prolixi de diversis mundi statibus.
