Cordiale, possibly by Gerard van der Vlyderhoven
Scope and Contents
This section contains 'Cordiale', 'For the Heart', also called 'De Quatuor Novissimis' ('Of the Four last Things') in the list of contents. The author of this text is not known for certain, but it probably was Gerard van der Vlyderhoven, Procurator of the House of the Order of Teutonic Knights at Utrecht in the years 1380-96. The 'four last things' refer to Death, Judgment, Eternal Glory, and Hell. The present text starts with 'Memorare novissima tua et in eternum non peccabis' ('Remember your last things and you will never sin'), and ends with 'et intelligerent ac novissima providerent. Et sic est finis hujus operis conscripti anno domino 1447 feria secunda post Esto m[ihi].
