Scope and Contents
The North East view of Edinburgh Castle. Possibly from Slezer's Scotland, although the view was not included in the first edition of Theatrum Scotiae. The background shows the view looking east (Firth of Forth and Inchkeith), whereas the elevation of the Castle which is shown is from the east looking west. Text written in ink bottom right hand corner, C.1 Text written on bottom left hand side, Printed for Bowls & Carver, 69 St. Paul's Churchyard, and Robert Wilkinson, 58 Comhill (London). Numbers pencilled on back, A2079 and 1664 (not a date). A second engraving exists with the same foreground detail but with the background showing as Calton Hill and Arthur's Seat.
