Scope and Contents
Likely to be a facsimile of an engraving made by David Allan in 1789, of the Ceremony of the laying of the foundation stone at the New College of Edinburgh. This refers to what is now called The Old College Quad at the University of Edinburgh. 1st, Gand Lodge of Scotland; 2nd, Lord Provost, Magistrates & Council; 3rd. Professors & Students; 4th, Procession of Free Masons; 5th, South Bridge terminated by a distant view of the Register Office. "D. Allan del. et incid. Edinbr. Novr. 26, 1789." Number on back, 102, refers to the "Cities and Town Planning Exhibition", Dublin (1911) catalogue number.
