Allan Ramsay, the elder (1686-1758), c 1914
Scope and Contents
Most likely a facsimile of an engraving portrait of Allan Ramsay by George Vertue and engraved by Smibert. Ramsay built the original Ramsay Lodge (nicknamed "The Goosepie") in his youth. Engraving, "J. Smibert P(inxit), Geo. Vertue S(culpit )." Number on back: A3. Geddes employed Henbest Capper and Sydney Mitchell to create the Ramsay Garden complex for use as student and lecturer's residences. It accommodated a large flat for himself and his family.
