Free Church College Garden Court, c 1985
Scope and Contents
View of Free Church College from Garden. This view may be seen from Ramsay Lane. The Free Church College held the ownership of this building from the time of its construction (1844-1850) until 1900, and from 1905 to 1907 when it was transferred to the United Free Church, and after the Union of Churches in 1929, to the Church of Scotland. Since 1937 it has housed the Faculty of Divinity of the University of Edinburgh. In 1907, the Free Church moved their headquarters to the Free Church College further along The Mound. Handwritten title on the original envelope containing the corresponding glass plate negatives was written by Alasdair Geddes. A print from the corresponding glass plate negative was included in the "Monuments and Restorations" section of Geddes' replacement "Cities and Town Planning Exibition". See Coll-1167/B/20.

Processing Information
The printed legacy catalogue the "Papers of Sir Professor Patrick Geddes" (1998) lists this item in both the Papers (Vol I) of the catalogue, and the Photographs (Vol II). In general (with occasional exceptions) the listing in the Papers (Vol I) does not refer to a physical item but refers to the use of a print from the negatives in a particular section of the "Cities and Town Planning" exhibition. In this new online catalogue (2020), to avoid duplicate listings and to mitigate confusion, these glass plate negatives and the related prints each are only listed once in the "Photographs for the Survey of Edinburgh" series (Coll-1167/B/26 - glass plate negatives; Coll-1167/B/27 photographic prints). Cross-references are documented in the catalogue descriptions where necessary.
