Drawings of Old Houses of Edinburgh by Bruce Home, 1904-1907
Scope and Contents
The first informal recording of 16th and 17th century houses was made by self-taught artist and engraver Bruce J. Home between 1870 and 1900. Home had undertaken the task of recording the appearance of interesting buildings in the Old Town of Edinburgh. This series contains a set of plates, letterpresses and drawings which form the content for Bruce J. Home's "Old Houses of Edinburgh" published by the Old Edinburgh Club (1904-1907) in two volumes. Home was an active collaborator with Geddes and his sister became Geddes' secretary.

These were originally stuck onto sugar paper in rows of seven, eight or nine with detailed written descriptions under each drawing. They have at some point been removed from this arrangement and now appear as single items, or single rows of items. Sugar paper was found to be significantly curled in 2016 and underwent dehumidification in order to the relax the paper.
