Scope and Contents

Correspodence and notes relating to Vivisected Jack.

1. Two notes which contain the timeline and details of Vivisected Jack being stolen and released. Includes details on the experiments done to Jack over a period of six weeks since he went missing.

2. A letter from Leisa K. Scharfale on behalf of Miss Lind-af-Hageby. 2nd May 1914, which information on the vivisection act of 1876 which bans the using of animals for experiments (2pp)

3. A letter from W. Bannerman to Miss Netta Ivory giving legal advice as to the prosecution of the surgeon who carried out experiements on Jack, 28th May 1914 (1p)

4. A letter from the Canine Defence League offering assistance when seeking prosecution of the vivisector which includes a handwritten response from Netta Ivory on the verso, 4th March 1914. Also includes an additional note from Netta Ivory about the use of a photograph of Vivisected Jack, 31st March 1914. (2pp)

5. Letters between the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Vivisection and the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection as to the use of the photograph of Vivisected Jack in publications. the SSPV would like to be acknowledged as having supplied the image, 20th and 21st March 1914 (2pp)

6. Letter from Louis Saul Langfier, photographer, confirming the number of photographs they have agreed to print of Vivisected Jack, 8th May 1914.(1p)
