 File
Identifier: Coll-1618/2/1/7/3

Scope and Contents

Two newspaper cuttings about the "Brown Dog Affair". This came about upon the erection of a drinking fountain, upon which sat a bronze statue of a dog with the following inscription. "In memory of the Brown Terrier Dog Done to Death in the Laboratories of University College in February 1903". The fountain was a site of protest between medical students and animal welfare charities.

The articles are extracted from the British medical Journal, 1st September 1956, and the South London Press, 3rd July 1962.
