Scope and Contents

A collection of material produced by the National Canine Defence League campaigning for an end to the use of dogs in vivisection. The records, not produced by the SSPV, are a combination of pamphlets, newspaper cuttings, and letters.

1. "A Question to Candidates", a leaflet to support the Dog's Protection Bill 2. "Unto the Honourable the House of Commons", a petition for the Dog's Protection Bill 3. "Into the Light, Dog's Protection Bill in Danger", reprinted from Sussex County Herald, 1933 4. Letter from a newspaper on the Dog's Protection Bill, written by Stephen Coleridge, Director of the National Anti-Vivisection Society. 5. A letter from Flora Drummond of the Women's Guild of Empire to NEtta Ivory on the topic of the Dog's Protection Bill and how debate is being delayed due to a "Faulty Bill". 8th March 1933 6. "If I had a Vote", a pamphlet of a dog selecting "true friend" on a voting card. 7. Publication, "Why Vivisect Me? The Case for the Protection of Dogs Bill", issued by the National Canine Defence League 8. Dog Lovers Petition 9. Notice from the National Canine Defence League Secretary, Charles R. Johns about the Protection of Dogs Bill, 1931 10. Notice from the Canine Defence League encouraging the public to write to Netta Ivory to campaign for the Dogs Bill 11. A copy letter from unknown defending the use of dogs in experiments due to so few dogs being used for the benefit of millions of humans, 11th April 1927 12. Letters between the Canine Defence League and the SSPV, 1923-1926 13. Notice, "Defeat of the Dogs' Protection Bill" 14. Request for people to write to their MP to support the Bill and information on the Bill, 1919 15. A letter from Netta Ivory to members of the SSPV calling on their support for the Dogs' Protection Bill,c.1919 16. Copy of the Dogs' Protection Bill, to prevent the vivisection of dogs, 1919 (3 copies) 17. A note from Netta Ivory saying the Dogs' Exemption Bill is the work of the Canine Defence League, but the SSPV fully support it, 10th October 1908
