Kenya by Norman Leys, 1918-1974
Scope and Contents
Papers relating to a reprint:
1. Copy of letter sent by Dr Norman Leys, Medical Officer, Nyasaland, to the Secretary of State for the Colonies, Downing Street, 7 February 1918. (Typescript).
Research correspondence:
2. George Shepperson to Dr Duncan Leys (half-brother of Norman Leys). He is interested in a chapter about the Nyasaland Rising of 1915 in Norman Leys' book Kenya and asks if Dr Leys knows the whereabouts of any material about this event, collected by the author. 1 June 1954.
3. In his reply, Dr Leys gives some information about the family, but he appears doubtful about the survival of anything that would interest Mr Shepperson. He himself had tried to have Kenya reprinted, particularly as it leaves no doubt about the responsibility for Mau Mau, but without success. 6 June 1954.
4-5. Letters referring to possible reprint of the book and sources to be checked: Colin Leys, University of Sussex, ND; D. A. Low, University of Sussex, 4 May 1965.
6-7. Copies (2) of Introduction to Norman Leys' Kenya by Professor George Shepperson.
8. Letter from Agnes Avery (daughter of Norman Leys) thanking Mr Everitt for the copy of Professor Shepperson's introduction to the new edition of Kenya. 1 November 1968.
9-12. Replies to letters from Diana Wylie, London, in which she sought help with research on Norman Leys and McGregor Ross.
