Scope and Contents
Copy letters, the earliest of which is written by Mary, which the final section written by Lyell - no summary but relates to Lesley's publication in 1864 in the Proceedings of the Phil[osophical] Soc[iety] of Philadelphia . Lyell praises Lesley's diagrams showing the complexity of the Appalachians. The second letter [numbered in the folios first] is written by Arabella Buckley, summarised as 'Faults in Appalachians, Hull on Permian overlying Coal-measures Medlicott theory of mountain formations proved oscillations in Alps - longitudinal extension - Query as to his numbers as applied to formations.
