Biographical / Historical
The Paramecium stock, which became known as stock 540, was collected by Tracy Sonneborn in Mexico. Sonneborn sent the stock to Beale in Edinburgh in 1956, where it was discovered that the stock was a 'mate-killer' and containined 'mu' particles in the cytoplasm.
