Biographical / Historical
London County Council Architect's Department organised many local exhibitions explaining to the public exactly the implications of reconstruction or comprehensive development for their neighbourhoods, with models, plans and photographs. The 1951 Festival of Britain resulted in a large temporary exhibition on London's South Bank and a "Live Architecture" exhibition, at Lansbury, London, which was part of the Stepney / Poplar Comprehensive Development Area in the East End. This demonstrated a completely planned neighbourhood, with houses, shops, schools and a market.
